Guru Amar Das Ji Gurpurab, also known as Parkash Purab, celebrates the birth of the third Sikh Guru, who was born in 1479 in Basarke village near Amritsar to Tej Bhan Ji and Mata Lakshmi Ji . Observed on 9 Jeth in the Nanakshahi calendar (usually falling in May, such as April 30 in 2026), the day is marked with Akhand Paths, kirtans, and langar, while devotees reflect on the Guru's enduring legacy . He strengthened the practices of langar and pangat (eating together regardless of caste), advocated for women's rights by opposing Sati and purdah, established the Manji system to spread Sikh teachings, and composed the beloved Anand Sahib . His teachings continue to inspire Sikhs to uphold equality, service, and devotion.
