The St. Marks Church was originally founded by Rev. Hubert C. Henlham in 1893 as the Church of St. Mark the Evangelist. The original wooden church, which can only accommodate 70 worshippers was built on land given by the Government at Jalan Bagan Luar Road. The site was chosen because its location is convenient for parishioners. It was completed in 1894 and consecrated on 15th Jan 1895. The church was surrendered by the Diocese in 1929 in exchange for the current site which is three times larger. The current church was consecrated on 2nd Nov 1929. Consequently, the road was renamed after the church as Jalan St. Mark.
