Penang First Assembly of God located at Macalister Road can be traced back to 1950s when American missionary Evelyn Hatchett began evangelical work by conducting Sunday School at a house at Thorpe Road. In the early days, Penang First did not have a permanent church building. Believers would meet at various locations in George Town. The sudden demise of Sister Evelyn Hatchett in 1961 became a blessing to the believers, as it moved foreign Christians to raise funds for Penang First to purchase its premises at 286 Macalister Road. This remains the main premise of the church, in addition to another site in Green Lane called Hunza Sanctuary, the premises at Macalister Road was the main premise of the church until the completion of Penang First MMC, a multi-purpose ministry complex at Bandar Sri Pinang in 2018.
