The Local Spiritual Assembly of the Bahá'ís of Penang was formed on 21st April 1958. The first Bahá'í came to Penang as early as 1883. This inaugural Spiritual Assembly was also the first ever Assembly formed in any of the Northern states of Malaysia (then known as Malaya). Today, more than 6 decades since the Bahá'í Community was established in Penang, believers still come from all walks of life and remain steadfast in working towards creating a new and peaceful world civilization based on principles of justice, prosperity, and continuing advancement.
