Latar Belakang / Sejarah

The temple was established more than 100 years ago by a Tamil Hindu community that once lived in Kampung Sirih. They were mainly coconut plantation workers, fishermen and petty traders. The community dispersed after the demolition of part of Kampung Sirih in the 1970s. The temple was at first a simple wooden shed built under a Bodhi tree but evolved into its current structure incorporating the tree. A vegetarian temple, it is dedicated to a powerful Hindu God called Muniswarar, who is thought of as a form of Shiva. Since his main weapon is a trident, he's sometimes worshipped in a form of a trident with limes placed on the prongs of it.
