Saint John, Apostle and Evangelist, was one of the Twelve Apostles of Jesus and is traditionally identified as the "beloved disciple" mentioned in the Gospel of John. Alongside his brother James and Peter, he formed part of Jesus's closest inner circle, witnessing key moments such as the Transfiguration and the agony in the Garden of Gethsemane. According to Christian tradition, he authored the fourth Gospel, the three Epistles of John, and the Book of Revelation while exiled on the island of Patmos. He is unique among the apostles for traditionally being believed to have lived to old age, surviving natural death rather than suffering martyrdom. His feast day is celebrated annually on December 27.
