Saint Thomas, Apostle, also known as "Didymus" (meaning the Twin), was one of the Twelve Apostles of Jesus. He is best known in Christian tradition for his initial skepticism regarding the resurrection of Jesus, where he declared he would not believe unless he touched Christ's wounds—leading to the famous moniker "Doubting Thomas." However, upon encountering the risen Christ and touching His wounds, Thomas made one of the most profound confessions of faith in the Gospels: "My Lord and my God!" Ancient tradition holds that Thomas traveled far beyond the Roman Empire to preach the Gospel, founding the early Christian communities in India known today as the Saint Thomas Christians. His feast day is celebrated annually on December 21.
