Saint Andrew, Apostle, was a fisherman from Bethsaida and the brother of Simon Peter. According to the Gospels, he was originally a disciple of John the Baptist before following Jesus, and he is often remembered as the "First-Called" apostle because he immediately brought his brother Peter to meet Christ. In Christian tradition, Andrew traveled extensively to preach the Gospel, particularly around the Black Sea region and Scythia, and is traditionally believed to have been martyred on an X-shaped cross, now known as St. Andrew's Cross. He is revered as the patron saint of several countries, including Scotland, Ukraine, Russia, and Romania. His feast day is celebrated annually on November 30.
