Saint Simon the Zealot and Saint Jude Thaddeus are two of the Twelve Apostles of Jesus, often paired together in traditional liturgical calendars because their feast day is celebrated on the same date. Simon is traditionally designated as the Zealot, suggesting a passionate devotion to Jewish law or a background in the nationalist zealot movement before following Christ, while Jude is recognized as the author of the Epistle of Jude and is traditionally invoked as the patron saint of lost causes and desperate situations. Their joint feast day is celebrated annually on October 28.
