The Epiphany of the Lord, celebrated on January 6 (or the Sunday between January 2 and 8 in many churches), commemorates the manifestation of Jesus Christ to the Gentiles, most famously represented by the visit of the Magi from the East, who followed a star to worship the newborn King and offered him gold, frankincense, and myrrh (Matthew 2:1–12). The feast celebrates the revelation of God's salvation to all nations, not just to Israel, and traditionally also commemorates Jesus's baptism in the Jordan and his first miracle at Cana. In many cultures it is associated with gift-giving, house blessings, and the inscription of the Magi's initials (C+M+B) above doorways
