English: The Feast of St. Andrew the Apostle honors Saint Andrew, the brother of Simon Peter and a fisherman from Bethsaida. He holds the distinct honor in Christian tradition of being the "First-Called" (Protokletos) because he was the very first of Jesus' disciples. According to ancient tradition, Andrew preached the Gospel around the Black Sea region, Greece, and Byzantium. He was martyred by crucifixion in Patras, Greece, on an X-shaped cross.
