English: The Feast of St. James the Apostle (traditionally known as St. James the Greater) honors the son of Zebedee and brother of John the Evangelist. A fisherman by trade, he was among the first disciples called by Jesus and belonged to the inner circle alongside Peter and John, witnessing pivotal events such as the Transfiguration and the Agony in the Garden. Jesus nicknamed James and John the "Sons of Thunder" (Boanerges) due to their fiery zeal. St. James holds the distinction of being the first of the Twelve Apostles to be martyred, ordered to be executed by sword by King Herod Agrippa I around 44 AD.
