The wooden building of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary was originally erected by the late Rev. Fr Souhait, the Parish Priest Church of the Assumption in 1935. As the population grew, Rev. Fr. G. Belleville, who became the Parish Priest of NBVM in 1957 started the project of the new building for the Church. On the 23 July 1967, the Vicar General of Penang, Rev Msgr I J. Aloysius laid the foundation stone for the new Church. The Church was completed in 1969.
